On 8/4 Eversource mobilized State Electric’s storm restoration crews to their Hadley, MA Area Work Center (AWC) after Tropical Storm Isaias caused severe damage across the East Coast. After a few days restoring power from the Hadley AWC, our 9 crews comprised of 24 people were repositioned to the Pittsfield, MA AWC.

While most of us were enjoying the New Year’s festivities, State Electric’s storm restoration crews were busy restoring power in Western Mass. Early Monday morning (12/30), our crew of 25 mobilized to Eversource’s Hadley and Springfield service districts after a major ice storm knocked out a lot of the electricity in the area.

In late October 2019, State Electric’s Commercial Division completed the electrical core & shell and fit-out of Akamai’s Global Headquarters at 145 Broadway, Cambridge in partnership with Turner Construction. The 19-story, 480,000 SF office tower consolidates Akamai’s six Kendall Square offices, placing 2,000 of their employees in the same building to foster an environment of innovation and collaboration. It gives us great satisfaction to be proud partners with MissionSAFE in the work they do with Boston’s highly at-risk youth. Since 2015, State Electric has donated Thanksgiving dinners to all their families to ensure everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving. This year, we provided 90 dinners with all the fixings to MissionSAFE! We are privileged to be able to give back and make it a little easier for these families to share the day with those most important to them worry-free. Work is well underway at our Assembly Row Block 8 residential project. Project Manager Eric Gill, General Foreman Dave Liang, and VDC Coordinator Rocco Capalino have implemented BIM technologies to precisely coordinate and install the major underground conduit feeding the main electric room, risers, and shafts. Our integrated approach and BIM utilization has allowed us to expedite installation time with increased accuracy and efficiency.

State Electric’s Utility-Power Division recently completed its work at the Everett Substation #37 project while serving as the prime contractor for National Grid. This project entailed a major retrofit of the existing substation while maintaining full-service capabilities. Under the direction of Project Manager Kyle Higginbotham and General Foreman John Ritz, our work began in December 2016. After making good progress over the first two years, Kyle and John were reassigned to other prominent jobs. Project Manager Jim O’Keefe and General Foremen Jim Sheehan took over as project leads and brought the job to completion in October 2019.

The 10-story, 272 room hotel entrance is located directly on Causeway St. with the rooms/amenities areas encompassing floors 4-13 on top of the podium. State Electric’s Low Voltage Systems Division recently completed a cutting edge Corning® Optical Network Evolution (ONE™) software-defined local access network (SD-LAN) installation that included 12 server cabinets. Our team, led by Project Manager Joe Vaccari and Foreman Ben Jackson, seamlessly delivered the project for our client. Instead of having separate copper networks for voice, data, IPTV, Wi-Fi, security, and audiovisual, our client was able to deploy a single strand fiber to each designated area while carrying the traffic of all the above.

State Electric recently completed the electrical core & shell, fit-out, tel/data, security, and audio visual (AV) work at the new Northeastern University – LightView Student Apartments in partnership with John Moriarty & Associates (JMA). The 318,000 SF, 22-story, 214-unit building is owned and managed by American Campus Communities and leased out to Northeastern University. Conveniently located adjacent to the campus and the new Science and Engineering Complex, LightView offers students great amenities such as a fitness center, study rooms, lounge area, fully equipped in-dorm kitchens, on-site laundry facilities, and bike storage.

On September 30th, State Electric hosted the 2nd Annual MissionSAFE Brighter Futures Open at Turner Hill Golf Club. We had a full field of 36 groups comprised of our clients, supply chain partners, and other business partners. Together, we raised $97,000 with all of the proceeds going directly to MissionSAFE! This money will go a long way in helping MissionSAFE’s at-risk youth in Boston receive the necessary development programming and guidance to get them on a path to success. After a year of construction, State Electric’s Utility-Power Division has completed its work at the Ipswich River Substation in Peabody, MA. While acting as the prime contractor for Peabody Municipal Light Plant, we replaced the existing single-bay 115kV/23kV substation with a new two-bay green field substation. State Electric’s project team, led by Project Manager Bobby Jones and Foremen Mark Delisle and Joe Scalese, did an exceptional job. Yesterday evening, State Electric's storm restoration line crews mobilized to Florida for Hurricane Dorian’s power distribution restoration efforts with Florida Power and Light. We have been a long time partner with Florida Power and Light and are eager to assist them with the expected major power outages over the next few weeks. Dorian is projected to make landfall on Monday, potentially as a catastrophic Category 4 hurricane. Our 70 personnel will be positioned in Lake City, Florida by Saturday and ready to mobilize wherever we are needed most. We wish our crews good luck and remember, Safety in Every Step....

After working in partnership with Skanska for the last two and a half years, State Electric has completed its scope of work at the new Boston College Recreation Center. Our Commercial, Low Voltage Systems, and Utility-Power Divisions played critical roles in delivering this project. Since November 2017, State Electric’s Utility-Power Division has been hard at work executing the electrical scope at the Canal 3 333MW Generating Plant for NRG Energy and the Skanska/Burns & McDonell joint venture. The new simple cycle unit is an addition to the existing 600MW plant that was built in the 1960’s located on the Cape Cod Canal. The modern, high-efficiency peaking plant is designed to promote grid reliability by primarily operating during peak demand periods. The 239,000 SF, 9-story, 106 unit luxury condominium building was built in parallel with the 372,000 SF Pier 4 Office building, which State Electric also completed late last year. In partnership with The Richmond Group, State Electric’s Commercial Division recently completed the Celsius Therapeutics electrical fit-out at 399 Binney St. in Cambridge. This past Friday State Electric was given the exclusive opportunity to play in the Boston Garden Society’s Member Face Off game at the TD Garden. Procurement Agent Josh Rosenberg and Harvard DEF Foreman Billy Weinstein represented State Electric at the game. State Electric’s storm restoration crews have been actively restoring power throughout the area this season. On January 20th, Eversource Eastern MA. reached out for support with the recent snow/ice storms. We responded with a team of 27 people comprised of electricians, linemen, and managers with nine bucket trucks and two digger derricks. Our crews were originally dispatched at 5:00 am to Framingham, MA but that proved to be uneventful, so they were sent to Eversource’s Cheshire CT. service district. This area was hit extremely hard with over ½” of ice buildup on the trees and powerlines causing over 22,000 outages....

Built in 1915, the BU Castle was home to numerous BU Presidents and hosted many university events, galas, dinners, and lectures through the years.
