State Electric’s storm restoration crews have been actively restoring power throughout the area this season. On January 20th, Eversource Eastern MA. reached out for support with the recent snow/ice storms. We responded with a team of 27 people comprised of electricians, linemen, and managers with nine bucket trucks and two digger derricks. Our crews were originally dispatched at 5:00 am to Framingham, MA but that proved to be uneventful, so they were sent to Eversource’s Cheshire CT. service district. This area was hit extremely hard with over ½” of ice buildup on the trees and powerlines causing over 22,000 outages. In addition to the below zero temperatures and high winds, our crews had to coordinate with various other crews from surrounding areas which made restoring power difficult.
Working under these conditions is extremely dangerous and tragically a Local 42 lineman working for another company lost his life after being struck by a fallen limb. The number one focus in planning our work is always the safety of our employees and the public. State Electric’s crews along with our management team did an extraordinary job of keeping everyone safe and they all were able to return home safely and injury free on January 23rd.
Unexpectedly, Eversource Eastern MA. called the next day (1/24) requesting assistance after high winds swept through the South Shore of Massachusetts causing major power outages. State Electric responded with six bucket trucks and one digger derrick truck to the Plymouth, MA service district. Our team restored power throughout the night to areas in Bourne, Plympton, and Sagamore. They were faced with various challenges that included high winds that finally settled down around 10:00 pm and working safely in the dark while patrolling for damage. After an 18hr shift, our crews were able to return back to Bedford at 11:00 am on January 25th. With more bad weather on the horizon, our storm restoration crews are always on call and ready to assist wherever they are needed. Stay safe and remember Safety In Every Step!
