While most of us were enjoying the New Year’s festivities, State Electric’s storm restoration crews were busy restoring power in Western Massachusetts. Early Monday morning (12/30), our crew of 25 mobilized to Eversource’s Hadley and Springfield service districts after a major ice storm knocked out a lot of the electricity in the area.
They worked long 17/18hr days with extreme caution restoring primary and secondary power to many of Eversource’s customers. Icy conditions are some of the most dangerous to work in with the treacherous roads and limbs/branches falling from the ice buildup. In total, the storm brought over .5” of ice making it especially challenging. State Electric’s storm restoration crews did an excellent job working safely as an integrated team to play a major role in getting the power efficiently restored. Mid-Wednesday morning (1/1), our team was finally able to return home safely to their families and celebrate the new year.
